Unveiled in September 2023, the Nokia G42 positions itself as a budget-friendly 5G smartphone for everyday users seeking a blend of affordability and practicality. Let’s delve deeper into its strengths and weaknesses:

Pros:

  • Large, smooth display: The phone boasts a sizeable 6.56-inch HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, delivering a visually pleasing experience for browsing, watching videos, and everyday tasks.

  • Capable performance: Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480+ 5G processor, the G42 efficiently handles daily tasks and ensures you can leverage the latest 5G connectivity. Memory options of 6GB or 8GB RAM allow for smooth multitasking and keeping essential apps open in the background.

  • Ample storage: Choose between 128GB or 256GB of internal storage to accommodate your app, photo, and video needs, ensuring you have enough space for your digital life.

  • Decent camera system: The rear setup features a 50MP main sensor that captures detailed and vibrant images in good lighting conditions. While low-light photography might require extra effort, the 50MP sensor delivers decent results for everyday use. It’s accompanied by a 2MP depth sensor for portrait shots and a 2MP macro sensor for close-up details. The 8MP front-facing camera caters to selfies and video calls.

  • Long-lasting battery: Equipped with a 5000mAh battery, the Nokia G42 promises reliable endurance on a single charge, lasting a full day or even two with moderate usage. This makes it ideal for users who are constantly on the go and don’t want to be tethered to a charger throughout the day.

  • Clean software experience: The phone runs on stock Android 13, offering a clean and user-friendly interface free from bloatware. Additionally, Nokia guarantees two years of software updates, ensuring you stay up-to-date with the latest security patches and features.

Cons:

  • Lower display resolution: While the 6.56-inch display offers a good viewing experience, its HD+ resolution falls short of the Full HD (1080p) resolution found in many competitor devices in this price range. This might be a concern for users who prioritize sharper visuals or enjoy watching a lot of high-resolution content on their phones.

  • Limited camera versatility: While the 50MP main sensor performs well in good lighting, the lack of an ultra-wide sensor might be a drawback for users who enjoy capturing expansive landscapes or group photos. The inclusion of a macro sensor might not be as beneficial to everyone as an ultra-wide option.

  • Slower charging: The phone supports standard 18W fast charging, which might feel slow compared to some competitors offering faster charging speeds.

Overall, the Nokia G42 offers a compelling package for budget-conscious users seeking a reliable 5G smartphone with a large display, long battery life, and a decent camera system for everyday use. While it might not be the most powerful option on the market and has limitations in display resolution, camera versatility, and charging speed, it strikes a good balance between affordability and essential features, making it a strong contender for those who prioritize value.

Underneath its sleek exterior, the Nokia G42 5G is fueled by the powerful octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 480+ chipset. Paired with 4GB of RAM and supplemented by an additional 2GB of virtual RAM support, it ensures seamless multitasking. Storage-wise, you get 128GB of onboard memory, expandable up to a whopping 1TB via a microSD card.

Operating on Android 13, this dual SIM smartphone ensures a user-friendly experience. Nokia pledges to provide 2 years of OS updates and 3 years of security updates for this device, keeping it up-to-date and secure.

Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the triple rear camera setup on the Nokia G42 5G, comprising a high-resolution 50MP primary camera, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro lens. For capturing selfies, there’s an 8MP front-facing camera.

Adding to its appeal, the Nokia G42 5G boasts an IP52 rating, making it resistant to dust and water ingress. Powering this device is a hefty 5000mAh battery, with support for 20W fast charging, ensuring you stay connected throughout the day without worrying about battery life.
